“At acoustic gigs and rehearsels I used to play my cajon. But as a drummer I couldn’t get used to not using my feet when playing it. I also missed sounds like a tomtom and a hihat”. Drummer and inventor Jeroen Dekker explains how the idea for Baterinho came about. “I knew there were things available like a remote kick-pedal and jingles that could be screwed to a cajon but I didn’t want to take an exta bag of stuff to the gig. That is where the idea for Baterinho popped up. The next day I built my first prototype. Since then I developed the Baterinho into a small acoustic drumkit and at the same time the pivot-technique which is used to produce the kick sound”.
Jeroen has been testing the Baterinho for a couple of years on several acoustic occasions. To test it’s durability, one of the prototypes has been used at an high school for six months. All this testing and developing has led to an instrument of which there is no other. Baterinho is ideal for small acoustic settings where a drumset would produce too much decibels. “And,” Jeroen adds, “it is an ideal replacement for a drumset in school environments. Because, unlike when you’re playing a cajon, with Baterinho you do use your feet and the way a rhythm is divided between your limbs is exactly the same as when you would play a drumset. And above all that Baterinho provides more sounds than just kick and snare at a much smaller volume and for less money”.
